She asked that stronger caution signage be placed south of the intersection. The township noted it had already alerted the county, which would contact MDOT, and that Breden Mullane asked the township to push MDOT since it is an MDOT road.
Infrastructure Projects
Tim Stein reported on the WLTL Road culvert/paving project, discussing progress with engineer Chris Bott (Gosling/Czubak). The topographic survey is complete, and hydraulic analysis at Shelda Creek is underway, tentatively calling for two new culverts. Modeling for sizes, dimensions, and design is expected by mid-August, with plans to be submitted to EGLE for permitting and construction plans forwarded to the township and road commission for cost estimates, in addition to the previously approved $25,000 study. Scott Tucker of the NPS was contacted regarding protocols for removing beaver dams affecting the hydraulic analysis.
Other Business
The board discussed re-writing the Cedar Area Fire and Rescue interlocal agreement to require all four member townships to share costs equally for future fire station construction and to become joint owners of the Cedar station; withdrawing townships would need to satisfy related financial obligations first. Attorney Haider Kazim, recommended by Fordyce for his multi-township fire department experience, was appointed legal counsel. Motion by Todd Nowak, seconded by Angie Diotte, to support amending the interlocal agreement passed 5-0; Tim Stein will work with the attorney pending support from the other three townships. The Planning Commission reported no public comment at its solar array (Section 4.28) hearing, which was approved for county review; work continues on the master plan, with an August 5 public input meeting advertised in the Enterprise.
Financial Summary
Treasurer Angie Diotte reported for June 30, 2026: beginning balance $596,790.51, disbursements $37,098.15, revenue $54,983.78, ending balance $614,676.14. Motion by Tim Stein, seconded by Tracy Olsen, to approve the report passed 5-0. Payment of bills for July 14, 2026 was approved 5-0 (motion by Tracy Olsen, seconded by Angie Diotte).
