Parks and Recreation Matters
Jared submitted a written Parks & Recreation report. The Dog Park is doing well now that holes have been filled in. The park received a Recreation Passport score of 110 out of 250 points; the board agreed to defer resubmission until April 2026 in hopes of scoring higher. A Golf Outing is planned for October 13 at Bahle Golf Course.
Other Business
- Planning & Zoning: Trustee Carlson reported that the Drake project has been put on hold by its owners for one month and will be revisited in October. Giffels Webster (GW) attended the September 2 Planning Commission meeting via Zoom and presented compiled Township survey results. Three Master Plan Workshops with GW are scheduled for September 30, between 2:30 and 8:00 pm at the Township offices. The next Planning Commission meeting is October 7 at the Suttons Bay School meeting room.
- Fire Authority: Treasurer Petroskey reported that at the September 9 meeting, the Fire Authority hired three new employees - one Paramedic and two EMTs.
- Assessor's Report: Gunner Brow (absent) submitted a written report.
- Zoning Board of Appeals: Motion by Carlson, seconded by Slocombe, to appoint Kevin Weber to the Zoning Board of Appeals, filling Don Gregory's term; motion passed.
- Condo Association Representative: Slocombe moved to elect Supervisor Doug Periard as the Township's Condo Association representative for the Hansen's Plaza buildings (Coldwell Banker, Body Balance, and Township Offices); seconded by Petroskey; Periard accepted; motion passed. Meetings occur annually or as needed.
- Board Member Comments: Trustee Carlson will consult "the Red Book" to check for conflicts regarding Planning Commission and Township Board members serving on Leelanau County boards. Clerk Moe noted that BS&A will be onsite Monday through Thursday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, to train Treasurer Petroskey and Clerk Moe on new accounting software.
