Summary
The Glen Arbor Township Planning Commission met on May 1, 2024, with Chairman Lance Roman presiding. Parks and Recreation Matters
Commissioner Hawley reported that the Township Board repealed the ordinance establishing the Park Board and Cemetery Board. The Board also approved a contract with Elmers to replace and stripe two tennis courts for $72,760, purchase new nets for $18,000, and add top soil for $4,000. The Board is considering striping the courts for both tennis and pickleball. In member comments, Hawley noted that a mention of the Cemetery should be included in the updated Master Plan.
Infrastructure Projects
Zoning Administrator Tim Cypher reported that Cherry Republic and the Road Commission are meeting regarding electric car chargers that were constructed in the road right-of-way without authorization. Cypher noted the three charging units represent a commercial venture using public parking space, and that parking decisions will fall to the Township. The County has issued a stop order, and the Building Safety Department has not yet made a determination on the matter.
Other Business
Cypher reported issuing three land use permits. Hawley will bring the County-approved Zoning Ordinance change proposal, Revision 5.0, to the Township Board at its May 21 meeting. The Zoning Board of Appeals had nothing on its docket. On the ordinance punch list: Cypher will work on combining the Resort and Recreational Districts by the June meeting, with Dotterweich coordinating with Assessor Tim Cairns for an updated database; Berlacher will provide information on fences at the June meeting; Cypher clarified that key holing is only permitted in R5-multifamily, resort, and business districts. Remaining punch list items (accessory buildings, accessory dwelling units/frogs, solar and wind, shipping container use) will be addressed at future monthly meetings.
