Summary
The Glen Arbor Township Board met on May 20, 2025, with Supervisor Tom Laureto presiding; Trustee Bob Hawley was absent. Parks and Recreation Matters
Clerk Laureto reported that Linda Dewey has agreed to serve as MC for the Memorial Day ceremony at the Glen Arbor Cemetery. Terri Myers organized chair pickup, with Glen Lake 8th graders assisting in carrying chairs in and out of the cemetery. The Friends of Sleeping Bear will provide a track chair to assist attendees with mobility issues.
Infrastructure Projects
Supervisor Laureto reported that American Tower acknowledged an underpayment of seven months of revenue sharing owed to the Township under contract and sent a check for $19,090.36 to resolve the shortfall. Clerk Pam Laureto also updated the Board on delays with the parking lot project and provided anticipated completion dates, and noted that the QR payment code at the Boat Ramp has been updated and is now functional.
Other Business
The Board approved the agenda as amended and the minutes of the April 15, 2025 meeting. The Glen Lake Community Library Board recommended reappointing Cynthia Taggert to a second three-year term (ending 2028) and appointing Angela DeWitt to complete Dan Semple’s term (ending 2027); the Board approved both appointments. The Board also voted to donate an unused shed at the Leelanau School, formerly used for tennis equipment storage, back to the school. Plans for the 4th of July parade were discussed with four members of the Glen Lake Chamber of Commerce, who agreed to supply volunteers to help staff road barricades in partnership with the Township and Road Commission.
Financial Summary
As of April 30, 2025, cash on hand included: General Fund $1,092,596.91; Emergency Services Fund $3,434,397.51; GLFD Debt Service Fund $4,388.63; Park Debt Service Fund $1,488.37; Fisher Lake SAD Fund $49,659.68; Tax Collection Fund $5,400.95. General Fund bills from April 16–May 20 totaled $54,299.60, with April payroll (three-payroll month) at $26,903.08; both were approved for payment. Emergency Services bills from April 9–May 13 totaled $99,226.91, with payroll of $164,723.79; both were approved for payment. The Fire and Rescue Association agreed to cover the remaining approximately $25,000 balance for boat electronics and purchased additional fitness equipment for the department. Roof repair costs from storm damage totaled $13,242.00, paid by insurance less the Township’s $2,500.00 deductible. The Fire Chief received a 4% salary increase for 2025–2026.
