Summary
The Glen Arbor Township Board met on October 15, 2024, with Supervisor Tom Laureto presiding. The board approved the agenda, prior minutes, and routine financial payments. Discussion focused on emergency services equipment, ongoing security camera and server upgrades at the park, a new county road cost-sharing policy, and Planning Commission progress on zoning ordinances.
Public Comments
No public comments were made during the two designated public comment periods. Trustee J. DePuy relayed a complaint from a member of the public regarding the quality of paint work on the new tennis court; Supervisor Laureto agreed to contact Elmers to check on any warranties covering the work.
Parks and Recreation Matters
Clerk Laureto reported the boat ramp is now out for the season. Glen Arbor Outdoor brought in trash cans, flower barrels, and benches earlier than usual this year; the board asked that this be delayed until November 1 in the future. Sprinklers have been blown out, though Elmers accidentally cut a sprinkler line that Austin had moved; Austin will repair it and hydroseed the area in spring, with a few township lawn sprinkler heads also to be replaced and reseeded. A complaint about tennis court paint quality was raised (see Public Comments).
Infrastructure Projects
Clerk Laureto reported that TKS is having difficulty getting park security cameras to stream consistently and is exploring a licensed communication band to reduce interference. A static IP address is needed for the new server; Spectrum was scheduled to install it, with Netlink restoring internet/VPN access, though this requires upgrading to Spectrum's higher internet tier, increasing the monthly bill. TKS also sent an invoice for remote viewing support and a Quality Service Plan; the Clerk was asked to gather more information before further action. Supervisor Laureto shared the Leelanau County Road Commission's new Local Road Cost-Sharing Policy; he will attend a Supervisors meeting where Road Commission representative Brendan Mullane will speak, and report back further details.
Other Business
Trustee B. Hawley reported the Planning Commission completed work on fences and keyholing, with accessory buildings next on the agenda; he volunteered to draft an ordinance on shipping and storage containers for the Commission's review next month. Supervisor Laureto noted Zoning Administrator Cypher now has an online Land Use Permit submission program and a new administrative assistant. Clerk Laureto reported 461 absent voter ballots were sent out with 238 returned, and the Public Accuracy Test for voting equipment was scheduled for that Friday. The Township is now being reimbursed for ZBA legal expenses.
