The Leelanau County Road Commission agreed to perform the dirt/prep work at no charge, but the Township would need to pay $1,500.00 for the asphalt work. Motion by J. DePuy, supported by D. Lewis, to approve the repair; motion carried unanimously.
Other Business
Chief Ferguson reported 88 fire calls in July and 61 already in August, along with 6 Aeromed requests in the past 10 days (compared to a normal annual rate of 0–1). He and three firefighters plan to travel to Wisconsin to meet with Pierce Fire Trucks before finalizing the ladder truck order. The board approved, on motion by D. Lewis supported by J. DePuy, donating unused Holmatro rescue tools (Jaws of Life) to a fire department lacking such equipment; motion carried unanimously. Supervisor Laureto also reported that M-DOT engineer Ms. Carpenter advised against a speed study on M-22, stating it could result in a higher speed limit. On motion by T. Laureto, supported by D. Lewis, the board declined to pursue the speed study or lower the limit; motion carried unanimously. The Planning Commission did not meet in August.
Financial Summary
Auditor Kim Lindsey (CPA, Rehmann Robson LLC) presented a clean, unmodified audit opinion. Treasurer’s cash balances as of 7/31/25: General Fund $934,104.25; Emergency Services Fund $3,195,440.79; GLFD Debt Service Fund $9,055.83; Park Debt Service Fund $1,488.85; Fisher Lake SAD Fund $49,675.95; Tax Collection Fund $2,068,470.21. General Fund bills (7/16–8/19/25) totaled $34,340.59, with July payroll of $21,642.67, approved unanimously. Emergency Services bills (7/11–8/12/25) totaled $84,206.85, with July payroll of $115,400.44, approved unanimously. The board adopted Resolution #11-2025 (GLFD Budget Amendments #1, Capital Vehicle account) and Resolution #12-2025 (purchase of an Ascendant Aerial Ladder Truck using Emergency Services Fund Balance), both by unanimous roll call votes (DePuy, P. Laureto, Lewis, T. Laureto voting yes; Hawley absent).
Action Items
A public hearing on the proposed FY 26-27 fire department budget will be held September 10, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. at the fire station, 6401 S. State Street. Chief Ferguson and three firefighters will travel to Wisconsin to meet with Pierce Fire Trucks before the ladder truck order is finalized. The Leelanau County Road Commission will complete prep work for the Lake Street repair, with the Township to pay $1,500.00 for asphalt.
