**Executive Summary – Leelanau County Board of Commissioners Meeting – April 9, 2024**

**Agenda and Administration:** The meeting, called to order by Chairman Ty Wessell, began with the approval of the amended agenda, including the placement of the Northwest Regional Airport Authority (NRAA) agenda item as an action item. Administrator Allen provided updates, introduced new staff, and discussed upcoming events and communications. Interim Administrator Richard Lewis was also introduced, and an update on the Administrator search was provided. The board received an update from the Northern Michigan Regional Entity (NMRE) and the Human Resources Department.

**Action Items and Recommendations:** The Board addressed several action items, including recommending the Michigan Aeronautics Commission define the airport hazard area for Cherry Capital Airport, approving Public Service Recognition Day, and allowing the Sheriff’s Office to develop a sponsored employee recruit program in conjunction with Northwestern Community College. The board also approved staying status quo for 911 surcharges. Furthermore, the Board discussed the Leelanau Township Tower Construction Update and requested the Board to move forward agenda item Board of Commissioners – Point Broadband Update – Schedule and Performance Bond for Contract to the regular session. They approved a stipend extension for the Chief Deputy Clerk and County Clerk, and approved increases to commissioner compensation to be implemented in 2025.

**Departmental Updates and Approvals:** Various departments presented updates and sought approvals. The Probate Court received approval for video and audio recording equipment upgrades, and the Soil Conservation District’s revised fee schedule was approved. Senior Services secured agreements for dementia caregiver support and the Senior Project Fresh program, along with a catering contract for the Senior Expo. The Planning Department received approval for the Re-monumentation Grant and the purchase of wood chips for the Myles Kimmerly Park Playground. The Parks and Recreation Department’s request for fish purchase for Veronica Valley Park was also approved. The meeting included approval of the MIDC FY25 cost analysis, a change order for the lower-level build-out project, and the addition of cleaning services for the Benzie-Leelanau District Environmental Health Department space on a month-to-month basis. Finally, the Board approved claims and accounts.
