Budget Workshop (Minutes)

The Leland Township Board convened a budget meeting on February 20, 2025, at the Leland Township Office to discuss various financial aspects related to the Harbor. The meeting, led by Supervisor Clint Mitchell, commenced at 11:00 a.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance. Key attendees included Clerk Lisa Brookfield, Treasurer Shirley Garthe, Trustee Steve Scales, and Jeremy Anderson.

A significant portion of the meeting was dedicated to discussing the costs associated with dredging, which were estimated to be between $50,000 and $60,000. The board considered the option of acquiring their own dredge to manage the process independently, especially given the challenges in coordinating with the Army Corps of Engineers in a timely manner to ensure the Harbor is open for the tourist season. The breakwall, being an Army Corps structure, adds complexity to the dredging operations. It was noted that the expenses for dredging are covered, alleviating some financial pressure.

Additional topics covered during the meeting included revenues from parking meters, as well as sales from fuel and merchandise. The board also discussed the possibility of reallocating funds from the Repairs and Maintenance budget if necessary to balance the overall budget.
