Regular meeting (Packet)

The Elmwood Township Board convened for a regular meeting on December 12, 2022, and a special meeting on December 22, 2022. During the regular meeting, the board approved the 2023 budget, set salaries for township officials, and adopted the Capital Improvement Plan for 2023-2029. They also authorized a Michigan SPARK grant application for marina improvements and allowed township employees to pursue grant applications for projects identified within township plans. A significant agenda item was the resignation of Trustee Jim O’Rourke, effective December 30, 2022, and the subsequent scheduling of a special meeting to interview and appoint new trustees. The board appointed Kyle Trevas and Jordan Gallagher to fill the vacant trustee positions.

The Elmwood Township Fire and Rescue Department reported a total of 55 calls for the month of December 2022, a slight decrease from the previous year. The majority of these calls were for EMS incidents, with a total of 41 EMS calls. The department also responded to two structure fires, four hazard conditions, three service calls, two good intent calls, and three false alarms. The department participated in a MABAS deployment to a grain storage bin fire in Hemlock, MI, providing valuable experience and relief to local crews. Personnel changes included the departure of Kayla Hadfield and the hiring of John Melichar as a Paid-On-Call firefighter/MFR.

The Planning and Zoning Department reported no permits issued in December 2022, with a year-to-date total of 63 permits, slightly up from the previous year. The Zoning Board of Appeals had to cancel a meeting due to lack of quorum, but future meetings are scheduled to address variance requests for agricultural commercial enterprises and deck expansions. The Planning Commission held meetings to discuss text amendments to the township ordinance, approve a site plan for a new parking area, and extend a marina project. The department also updated on the Parks & Rec Plan, Short-Term Rental licenses, and a grant application for marina improvements.
