Executive Board Session (Administration Handout – Well Monitoring EDS, 5/13/2025)

This document summarizes a request from the Administration Department to address a deficiency in the Leelanau County Law Enforcement Center’s water system, as identified by the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy (EGLE) survey conducted in September 2024. The primary issue concerns the lack of monitoring equipment to measure and record water level fluctuations in the public water well, as per rule 829 (1)(d).

The Administration Department is seeking approval to install the necessary well level monitoring equipment to comply with the EGLE’s recommendations before the May 31, 2025, deadline. The estimated cost for the equipment is $5,000.00, with installation bids being solicited from B&Z Well Drilling, Cluffs Well Drilling, and Great Lakes Well Drilling. Additional work will be handled by the Facilities Department and D&W.

The Facilities Department has already identified the required equipment. The estimated cost for installation is $2,500. The Administration Department anticipates finalizing the complete project cost for the full board meeting next week.

The recommendation is to advance the proposal for installing the well level monitoring equipment for full consideration at the May 20, 2025, Board of Commissioners meeting.
