Special Session (Minutes)

The Leelanau County Board of Commissioners convened a special session on February 11, 2025, at the Government Center in Suttons Bay, Michigan. The meeting, called to order by Chairman Steve Yoder at 1:57 p.m., was attended by all seven commissioners and included a roll call confirming their presence. The primary purpose of the session was to approve a public hearing scheduled for March 18, 2025, regarding a DNR Trust Fund Grant Application. Interim Administrator Richard I. Lewis explained that state law mandates a 30-day notice for such hearings, necessitating immediate approval during this special session. The motion to hold the public hearing was unanimously passed with a vote of 7-0.

Following the approval of the public hearing, the board considered entering a closed session to discuss union negotiations. Interim Administrator Lewis updated the board, and the county’s attorney was available via telephone. The motion to enter closed session, which included key county officials such as the incoming administrator, finance director, and sheriff, was also unanimously approved with a roll call vote of 7-0. The closed session commenced at 2:02 p.m. and concluded at 3:26 p.m., after which the board resumed open session.

During the open session, public comment was received from Bill Wiesner. No further commissioner comments were made. The meeting was adjourned at 3:31 p.m. by Chairman Yoder.
