The Leelanau Conservation District’s (LCD) update highlights various initiatives and activities across its departments, showcasing community engagement, conservation efforts, and staffing changes.

The County Work Orders section includes the Soil Erosion & Sediment Control (SESC) program, which saw a significant increase in its fee schedule in June 2024, with 543 permits processed throughout the year. Community engagement efforts included the National Association of Conservation Districts (NACD) Poster Contest, the 5th Grade Field Day at Veronica Valley County Park, and the Annual Plant Sales, which yielded 16,245 plants. Additionally, the LCD celebrated its 80th Annual Meeting, recognized by Congressman Bergman’s office and the U.S. Congressional Record.

Key staff changes include the retirement of Natural Resource Specialist Tom Adams and SESC Control Officer Steve Christensen, along with a succession plan for the Executive Director.
